I am a licensed marital and family therapist (LMFT) and I have a passion for helping build and strengthen marital and parent-child relationships as well as helping individuals with personal growth. Before going into private practice, I served as a therapist at a youth and family agency, where I worked with adolescents and their families. During this time, I was heavily involved in working with parents through parenting classes and family therapy. I have also worked with several couples in the context of premarital and marital therapy covering a variety of issues including communication, sexuality & intimacy, and infidelity.
Philosophy
I believe that people are inherently good; therefore, it is my perspective that people are not the problem, but problems simply find their way into people's lives. My job is to help individuals, couples, and families learn to effectively cope with their existing problems as well as find solutions that will remove the problems from their lives and relationships so they can function at a higher capacity.
Counseling Structure
The first step is calling me for your free phone consultation (or you can email me and I will call you). Druing this consultation, we'll briefly discuss you reason(s) for seeking out therapeutic services; I will answer any questions you may have; then, we'll schedule an appointment for your first visit.
Next, you will come for your first session. We will begin by completing the necessary paperwork (come 15 minutes early to get a headstart). I will spend most of our time getting to know you and the problem at hand. I usually end the session with a simple homework assignment to help prepare your mind for our next session.
Your second visit is your goal setting session. Having a clear understanding of what you want to accomplish in counseling is a very important step in the therapeutic process. Without goals, we are operating blindly; thus, we would have no way to measure progress. In essence, therapy goals provides the light at the end of the tunnel.
The following sessions will be spent working toward your goals.
